Communities of Practice (CoP)

Supported by Skillnet Ireland the establishment of ISFCOE’s Communities of Practice are key outputs from the Industry Readiness Pillar (Pillar 2) of Irelands Sustainable Finance Roadmap.

We will host various communities of practice for our members, bringing together sustainable finance professionals to collaborate and communicate, sharing knowledge between one another as a community and may also include observers as relevant (observers include academia, industry, professional and specialist bodies).

February 2023 saw the delivery of the first two International Sustainable Finance Centre of Excellence Communities of Practice gatherings. The first, the ‘Sustainable Finance Reporting and Disclosures’ group was formed to help finance professionals navigate the reporting landscape, including regulatory changes from an EU perspective. We were delighted to welcome Policy and External Affairs Director with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Mihály Zimonyi to discuss regulatory convergence as well as the upcoming ISSB standards. The second of the month’s sessions centred on the ‘Net-Zero Transition’ with guest speaker Sarah Ní Ruairc from the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, who spoke on the government’s Climate Action Plan 2023. The Climate Action Plan 2023 is the first to be prepared under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 and follows the introduction of economy-wide carbon budgets and sectoral emissions ceilings in 2022. Supported by Skillnet Ireland, the establishment of Communities of Practice are key actions from the ‘Industry Readiness’ pillar from Ireland's Sustainable Finance Roadmap.

In March, the Sustainable Finance community engaged in an insightful Reporting and Disclosures Community of Practice led by Ann Sheils. This was followed by another enlightening Net Zero Session, thoughtfully hosted by Bank of Ireland in May. As we transitioned into the summer months, EY played host to a comprehensive Reporting and Disclosures event, offering participants valuable insights into sustainable financial practices. Notably, a joint event bringing together the Reporting and Disclosures and Net Zero Communities of Practice took place, where both groups had the opportunity to meet with Thomas Viegas and delve into discussions surrounding the TNFD framework. This noteworthy session, hosted by PWC, exemplified the collaborative spirit and commitment to knowledge-sharing within our sustainable finance community. As we eagerly anticipate the culmination of the year, we look forward to a final event in December, marking the conclusion of Climate Finance Week and providing an opportunity for reflection and strategic planning for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in sustainable finance.
